Here at Woking Vineyard we are committed to 'being' Good News to those around us. A part of this is our involvement with local homeless shelters, showing God's love in practical ways.
We provide the homeless clients with a range of things including toiletries, clothing, bedding, food, Christmas gifts, and many other bits and pieces as and when required. We partner with Woking's York Road Project and Guildford Action to serve them as best as possible.
It's surprising how many people are homeless in the area. In 2008 York Road Project had to turn away 900 people due to having no further room. At the Vineyard we collect sleeping bags from wherever we can to offer to the rough sleepers who are turned away into the cold night. It's just a small thing, but hopefully it makes a difference.
We also partner with organisations like Besom to provide furniture and fittings for those who find housing but need help getting set up. In addition, we've 'adopted' a house that is run by York Road Project as a longer term home for those working hard to rehabilitate and get started again in life. Our aim at the house is to befriend, support and mentor the residents.
It's such a privilege to be involved in this work. If you'd like to find out more, please contact the church office.
