Our Story
background...
Woking Vineyard started as a new church plant in September ’97. Sent out from the Riverside Vineyard in Twickenham, Erik and Rebecca Jespersen began with a homegroup in their home, and the church plant has grown progressively from there. In March ’98 we started monthly Sunday evening celebrations in a local pub function room and then, in January ’99, we began fortnightly Sunday morning gatherings in a village hall. At Easter 2001 we began weekly Sunday morning services.
who we are . . .
Woking Vineyard is a growing group of people who want to experience the mercy and power of God at work in and through our lives. We run our church in an informal and unpressured way, as a place where we can find peace from our busy world and meet with Jesus. We are people who have a real and developing relationship with God, and we want to be totally honest with each other and ourselves.
We are a church who have decided to make every effort to value people in the same way as Jesus values them. That means everyone is acceptable just as they are – we don’t try to change people, we leave that to God. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God so we use the Bible often in our times together and encourage one another to put what it teaches into practice.
We really love to experience the presence of God especially in worship, which we include in most of our gatherings.
We believe that Christianity is about living life to the full, so we place a high value on having fun, family life and friendships where we can simply be ourselves.
where we’re going . . .
We’re learning to follow Jesus, in all its simplicity and complexity. As individuals we want to grow more like Jesus, demonstrating his heart to the people we live amongst. Our desire is to see his kingdom influence extend into the communities in which we live.
We have a clear expectation that God will draw many people as they experience acceptance and mercy, whilst recognising their need for completeness in their lives that only He can give.
what makes a vineyard church...
We belong to the Association of Vineyard Churches, with whom we work together in planting new churches, and from whom our pastors receive pastoral care in the context of accountable relationship. Over time we expect to develop the following recognisable features as a Vineyard Church:
Clear Biblical teaching
Worship in the freedom of the Holy Spirit
Active service to the needy, hurting & broken
Various homegroups in the surrounding area
Evangelism and healing
Good relationships with other local churches
Gifts of the Holy Spirit in operation
Equipping ourselves to live effective lives
