- Intentionally ask Christ to fill your whole life with His light, transforming your thoughts and attitudes towards others.
- Intentionally avoid behaviour and speech that undermines relationships, and is fed by anger, bitterness, or slander.
- Intentionally promote behaviour and speech that builds relationships, and is fed by love, encouragement, and honour.
This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining. If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness. Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble. But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.
Stop telling lies… don’t sin by letting anger control you… Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behaviour… Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you… Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace… let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes… be kind to each other, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you… Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ… live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
Lisa Bevere: A Relationship is like a house: when a light bulb burns out, you do don’t go and buy a new house, you fix the light bulb. Sometimes small adjustments make big changes. Do the maintenance work. Don't throw away your investment.
