- God desires sincerity, authenticity, honesty. Be absolutely honest with him. Read the Psalms of David to see what honest worship and prayer looks like!
- God hears the sound of the heart, not the lips. Consider whether your heart truly matches what your lips are praying and singing. Be honest with God if it doesn’t.
- We may say in church that we long for God more than anything, but does that longing continue outside church? Ask yourself regularly through each day, “what is my heart’s focus right now”?
Blessed are those who are pure in heart, for they will see God.
Hebrews 10:22 (NIV)
Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart
1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
Psalm 51:6&10 (ISV)
Surely you desire truth in the inner parts… God, create a pure heart in me, and renew a right attitude within me.
Matthew 15:8 (NLT)
These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is a farce.
James 4:8 (NIV)
Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV)
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
John 4: 23-24 (MSG)
That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship… Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.
Psalm 19:14 (NLT)
May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord
