- To receive a new life there must first be a death of the old. Come to the Cross afresh, asking God to put to death your old Self-sufficient life, burying it with Christ, so that He can raise you into a new God-sufficient life.
- Absolute surrender is an act of absolute trust, placing yourself fully into God’s hands, giving Him all control, relinquishing your demands and rights. Ask God to show you the things that you don’t yet trust Him with, and then bring each thing to the Cross in a prayer of surrender.
- We can each lay down our life, but then take it back up. So every day we must take up our cross through a prayer of absolute surrender. Something like: “Almighty God, in view of your great mercy, I lay my life down as a morning sacrifice for you. Choosing to die to self, I ask you to pour your mighty resurrection power through me that Jesus may be revealed and your kingdom come in power, changing me and redeeming the world. Amen”
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.
Luke 22:42 (NLT)
Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.
2 Corinthians 4:10 (NIV)
We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
Philippians 3:10-11 (NIV)
I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
Andrew Murray: Jesus said to His Father, in effect, “Here is my life, so precious to me, my life which has been sinless. I have yielded it to Thee in life, but now I am going to yield it to Thee in death.”
Andrew Murray: Because he gave up his life so entirely and sank into the thick darkness of death and the grave, God raised him up into a new life and a new glory and a new power. God raised him from the dead to glory. It was the death that was the secret of the resurrection.
Romans 11:36-12:1 (NLT)
For everything comes from [God] and exists by his power and is intended for his glory… so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
