- Don’t see meekness as weakness. Meekness is precious to God and attracts his grace. Gain a sound biblical definition of meekness. Study biblical characters who demonstrated meekness.
- Deal with pride. Meekness is a soft heart; Pride is a hard heart. Recognise and ruthlessly eliminate any thoughts marked by cynicism, comparison, judgment, or arrogance.
- Cultivate meekness. Keep your heart soft to God and others. Have an open, gentle, tender heart. Be responsive, pliable, and vulnerable to God’s Spirit.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Jesus was Meek:
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Mat 11:29) See, your king comes to you, meek and riding on a donkey (Mat 21:5)
Moses was Meek:
Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth. (Num 12:3)
Call to be Meek:
Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility (Zep 2:3) Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (Eph 4:2) as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (Col 3:12) pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. (1 Tim 6:11) the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Gal 5:22-23) the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. (1 Peter 3:4)
Promises to the Meek:
The meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity (Ps 37:11) The Lord opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. (Pr 3:34) He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. (Ps25:9) The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground. (Ps 147:6) For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. (Ps 149:4) The humble will be filled with fresh joy from the Lord. (Is 29:19)
